A Guide on How To Take Kratom

A Guide on How To Take Kratom

People in Southeast Asian traditionally consumed kratom by crushing its leaves and making it into a tea, or chewing or smoking it. Today you can take kratom capsules, pills and powders.

In powder form you can dissolve it in hot water or mix it with herbal teas to make it more palatable. Some people find the taste quite bitter and prefer to take it with alcoholic drinks or to ingest it with food, like mixing it with yoghurt or in homemade cookies.

Is It Addictive?

Kratom belongs to the same plant family as coffee called Rubiaceae. And, in the same way drinking ten cups of coffee isn’t good for you, taking too high a dosage of kratom isn’t either.

There are people who abuse kratom, taking high doses of the herb every day and on a long-term basis. However, this is usually because there is already an underlying issue causing them to take too much and become dependent on it. For example, former drug addicts who use it to curb their addiction may go overboard on their consumption and then become addicted to kratom itself.

If you take too high a dosage, you could get Kratom hangover where you experience nausea and headaches. However, used properly, in small amounts of 1 to 3 grams a time, there are little, if any, side effects.

Long-term use studies are still pending. However, the centuries long Thai experience of kratom proves its safety. A recent report from the country’s Transnational Institute and Narcotic control Board stated Kratom is a part of southern Thai culture and its criminalization is counter-productive in respect to it’s historic use in the country.

The FDA Are Trying to Ban It

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has labeled kratom a potentially dangerous drug, and has debated about whether or not to categorize it as a schedule 1 substance like cocaine and heroin.

In response to the FDA’s actions, kratom users have been actively campaigning against the illegalization of the herb which has been a godsend for so many of them.

They claim the FD wants to ban kratom for financial reasons as consumption of the cheap and widely available herb by those who’d otherwise be taking prescription drugs means less money for the government.

This is similar to what happened in Thailand in 1943 when the Thai government banned the herb. Even going as far as cutting down the plant harvests, greatly harming the local biodiversity of the country. All because kratom was threatening the highly profitable opium trade which was beefing up the national treasury.

The Author’s Personal Experience

From my own experience taking kratom, I can only echo the sentiments of other users who’ve seen the herb improve their well-being and quality of life. I’m a sufferer of ulcerative colitis, and as sufferers of IBD know, the illness can greatly impact your life both physically and emotionally.

After Niraj’s recommendation, I started consuming 2 grams of kratom first thing each morning and instantly noticed its calming effect on my worn-out colon. It makes my digestion feel at ease and helped clear up my diarrhea and bloody stools in two days, whereas prescription drugs would take weeks, if have any effect at all.

I’ve also witnessed other positive effects like less stress, better sleep, and an increased feeling of well-being. However, I haven’t just experiences benefits to my health. The herb has given me increased focus and drive with my work. In short, I can work harder for longer.

Trying Kratom

Though the herb is widely available, it’s an unregulated industry so consumers can’t be absolutely sure of the strain or doses in the batch they get. What’s more, reports have revealed some kratom distributors lace their supplies with potentially toxic drugs in order to intensify the effects. As such, it’s important you purchase the herb from a trustworthy distributor.
